HIRE A DEPENDABLE, CARING, AND CAPABLE HELPER (NANNY) for the children you love. WHY AND IN-HOME HELPER? Professional, social, and other demands of modern life often create the need and desire for qualified care of children at home. For those who employ a Helper (Nanny), the selection of the right person is imperative. WHY NOT JUST PLACE AN AD? While some girls who place themselves work out satisfactorily, disappointments are far more common. The employing couple may find the girl’s actual performance very different from what they expected. Often the girls who answer an ad have already been rejected by nanny agencies because they do not have the education, training, experience or standards that you would like them to have. WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO FIND AN IN-HOME HELPER? While you can advertise and screen on your own, the time and effort required for success can be tremendous. During our screening process, we check achievements and talents, training and experience, family background, and any negative or behavioral traits. We report all findings to you during your decision making process. By using our service you can: Save time. Well screen out the unqualified candidates and present you only quality candidates to choose from. Reach a market of potential candidates not reached through standard advertising channels. Minimize the likelihood of an unsatisfactory selection through careful screening on both ends of the employment arrangement. Prevent misunderstandings due to lack of a detailed job description or family’s lifestyle. Be provided with a contract which protects both parties and provides a guarantee to the Hiring Couple and Helper (Nanny). WHAT KIND OF HELPER (NANNY) CANDIDATES DOES HELPERS WEST OFFER? While we do offer young men (very appropriate for families with boys), older women (Granny-nannies), experienced nannies, and those with qualifications to be a household manager, most of our applicants are young women of college age who are looking for the growing and learning experience this kind of job offers. They are primarily religious girls with high standards, good work ethics, who do not smoke, drink, party, or get involved with drugs. They normally come from good family backgrounds and desire to work in a warm family environment. Although not always trained professionally, these girls have much experience from home and neighborhood babysitting and have a sincere desire to give love and care to your children. HOW ARE THE HELPERS (NANNIES) SCREENED? First, all prospective Helpers / Nannies must complete a detailed application. Next, an in-depth interview is scheduled. This is done in person, as often as possible; for those who cannot come to our office, we must interview by telephone. The interview confirms the information given in the application and proceeds with a few thought-provoking questions to check motivation, understanding of nanny responsibilities, communication ability, and more. Helpers West then completes at least three to four references of which most are child care references. This helps give a complete composite of child care ability and personality. We discuss situations that could have a positive or negative impact on a placement, and get to interact with the candidates in thoughtful situations. The discussion also includes pointers on communication, first-aid, and nutrition. Five out of seven applicants do not make the grade and must be turned away. We only work with those Helpers whose references tell us they can do the job and if we, as an agency, feel absolutely comfortable with them taking this position. WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE? 1 . Fill out the employer form as completely as possible, and return it to us along with snapshots of you, your children, the exterior and interior of your home, and the Helper's quarters. Only after we receive your completed application can we verify our ability to help you. Call us if you have any questions about pay, working hours, or any other item that could affect a satisfactory placement. 2. When your application is received, you will be contacted by phone or e-mail, for confirmation. 3. When a candidate is identified, the Hiring Couple (HC) -- you -- will be contacted and the candidate will be presented, then discussed. If the HC is interested in pursuing the candidate, material regarding the candidate will be faxed or e-mailed. At this time, an appointment for an interview by phone will be scheduled with the Helper / nanny by the Hiring Couple. 4. After you have placed the "get-acquainted phone calls" you will make a decision as to the candidate you wish to hire. We are screening applicants weekly, and if you are not satisfied with the selection of candidates presented, you are welcome to contact our office anytime you are on priority status to inquire of the most recent applicants. You should understand that all applicants are continually being presented and receiving their own "choices" and we cannot "hold" someone for any family. Our policy is that only when you make a firm offer to a candidate--and it is accepted--will her file be pulled from active status and a Three-way Conference Call scheduled. 5 . The final step in the placement, the Three-way Conference Call, is most important. The placement counselor will be a witness to the contract agreement between you and your Helper. She will act as a mediator in reviewing and agreeing to the responsibilities for the job. At this time the balance of the placement fee is due, and must be paid by check. Each party will receive two copies of the agreement, one to keep for your records and one to sign and return to Helpers West. 6. Along with the contracts you will receive a supply of performance review sheets which must be completed throughout the contracted term by you and your Helper and sent to the Helpers West agency. Information from the Helper's file will be mailed to you, including a recent picture of her. Other various information that may be helpful will also be sent. Any of the aforementioned information is available to you at any time during the selection process. After your Helper arrives, we will phone your new Helper and you to hear how all of you are getting along. (We send two copies of the contract to the Helper, one copy of first aid & CPR information, guidelines, and arts & crafts ideas.) Throughout your placement we will be available to you should you have any questions or concerns. Please notify Helpers West if there is any problem with the Helper. You (the Hiring Couple) must notify us if you feel the Helper / nanny is not working out before letting them go. HOW MUCH SHOULD WE PAY OUR HELPER? Simply put, your Helper should be paid upon personal qualifications and your job requirements. Below are job classifications based on the care of one or two children with light housekeeping duties. For each additional child requiring care, you should expect to pay at least $15 per week more if the mother is not at home during the day. For each additional duty listed under medium and heavy housekeeping duties that you desire, a minimum of $10 per week should be paid in addition to the base salary. Light -- picking up after the children, tidying the children's rooms, children's laundry, preparing children's meals, kitchen maintenance, keeping Helper's bedroom and bath neat and clean, vacuuming or dust mopping any spills and dusting Helpers room and children room, Medium-- occasional vacuuming and dusting (more than mentioned above), parents laundry, errands, feeding pets, Heavy -- thorough vacuuming of house, parents ironing, making of all beds, changing linen, clean all bathrooms, clean kitchen thoroughly, prepare dinner for family, weekly grocery shopping. We suggest the hiring couple start the weekly salary somewhere around325.00 (gross) for a beginning live-in nanny placement. For live-out nanny placement the nannies make $9.00 to $12.00 per hour. For live-out only, according to Federal law, any hours worked over 40 hours must be paid time and one-half. Most live-out nannies require $400.00 to $500.00 weekly for full-time beginning nanny. If you are interested in live-out only, please check with Helpers West and see if we place live-out nannies in your area. WHAT IS THE PLACEMENT FEE? The placement fee for: Eleven to twelve months -- $1950.00 (discount for Salt Lake City and surrounding areas) Four to Ten Months -- $ 175.00 (per month, discount for Salt Lake City and surrounding areas) Summer Placement -- $ 575.00 (3 months, discount for Salt Lake City and surrounding areas) This is paid by the Hiring Couple at the time of the 3-way Conference Call. IS THERE AN APPLICATION FEE INVOLVED? Yes, $45.00 (non-refundable) * ALL FEES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE
